Communication
Smartphone
A Smartphone is a phone that can connect to the internet and social networking sites quickly were ever you are at anytime. The impact that Smartphone’s have had is big because mostly every teenagers has got a Smartphone of some kind and this is changing the way people buy phones so every phone maker will have to eventually make a Smartphone.
The advantages of a Smartphone are:
· You can connect to the internet anytime and any place.
· It is usually free depending on the tariff you use on your mobile network
· Most Smartphone’s have got apps such as facebook and twitter so you can connect to social networking sites quickly
· Use it to send emails
The disadvantages of a Smartphone are:
· If your money runs out you have no internet coverage
· could break are freeze easier than most other phones
· Battery life can be poor
E-mail
E-mail is electronic mail which can be used to send messages, pictures, music and other files through the internet anywhere in the world to anyone who has got an email address. You can also send work and information such as letters and invoices through e-mails. The impact E-mail has had in society is huge because everyone who has a computer will have an e-mail address (which is free) and they can be used for everything like sending family pictures and music are even links to other websites. Some bad effects E-mail has had on society is that it will reduce contact with friends are family
The advantages of an E-mail are:
· Send messages anywhere to anyone at anytime
· Available to anyone who has got an internet connection
· Its free
The disadvantages of and E-mail are:
· You need an internet connection at all times to receive emails
· Computer could crash at anytime
· You could get a spam
· Easy to pick up a deadly virus that could wreck computers and even servers
Shopping
The impact IT has had on shopping is very big because all shops and supermarkets now mostly rely on computers and barcode scanners to do the work.
Most supermarkets now such as Sainsbury’s and Tesco’s have got online shopping which means that you can do your shopping online at anytime and the items would be delivered to your door, most of the time this is free. Some bad effects that this has had is that it can reduce people been social. You can not see the goods that you are buying and some of these goods could be damaged and broken. Another bad point is that sometimes out of stock items get replaced by something else.
Main advantage is that there is no need to visit the store.
• Good for people who work unsocial hours and can’t make it to the shop.
• Good for people who cannot leave the house physically.
Main disadvantages of ordering groceries online:
• You can’t examine the goods before buying them and they could be damaged.
• Out of stock items could be replaced with something similar that you don’t really want and may have to send back.
Social networking
Facebook
Facebook Is a social networking site which must people have. It allows you to communicate with people who are all over the world very quickly. You can do things such as chat, put up statuses, play games and put up pictures. Facebook has had a huge impact on the I.T society because nearly everyone has got Facebook. Facebook has change completely the way people communicate. You can talk to people you dont even know this caould also be bad. You can talk to relatives that you haven't spoken to in a long time and catch up. You can plan birthday party's for friends and family And finally you can use it as a dating service.
Advantages
· Allows you to search for new and old friends
· Makes it less awkward when communicating with strangers or people you are not familiar with

· Can be used as a dating service system
· Makes it easier to join different groups having the same likes and dislikes
· Allows members to check students who are taking the same class, living within the same area, or coming from the same academy and other valuable information
Disadvantages
· Weakens long distance relationships which means you might not get to see someone for a long time.
· serious addiction which means you could develop a bad eye sight
· stalking is possible and could lead to crimes
· Could start a riot, revolution are a campaign of hate against someone.
Twitter
Twitter is another social networking site that works a little bit differently than Facebook. Twitter has got famous people on it with there official pages unlike Facebook. It also works like Facebook by putting up statuses but there is no chat system. Twitter has also got a huge impact on the I.T society because people use it also to talk to people including celebrities. Celebrities have started using this to talk to each other and also plan social events.
Advantages
· It takes less than a minute to start an account and start tweeting.
· It allows you to put up statuses on celebrities pages
· You can follow anyone on Twitter, and anyone can follow you
· Unlike Facebook, which insists that you use your real name Twitter allows you to choose any available user name you’d like
Disadvantages
· More people shout than listen and discuss
· Twitter content does not appeal to everyone which could mean that you will be receiving content that you don’t even want
· To much information that is irrelevant
Banking
The effects of having ICT in banking has changed dramatically because everything in banking uses computers such as bank machines, bank machines use a computer now to process money. You can use online banking to pay bills such as bills from a shop. Another good reason is that no matter what time it is you can pay a bill because it is open 24hours a day. Another point is that you can check your bank account online as well which means you do not physically have to walk down and check it. Online banking has changed the face of transactional business and affects commerce across many trades and industries.
While the advantages of having an online bank are many, there are some disadvantages to consider:
- A lack of printed documents. While it’s an advantage not to receive monthly statements, there are a lot of risks to having all financial data online. Banks have back-ups of data, but it may be better to print statements for your own records just in case.
- It may be difficult to find your way around banking websites. Due to having so many options and tools available, some people may have trouble finding their way around the bank’s website to find what they’re looking for.
- Security. Even with the best security systems banks offer, there is an increased risk for identity theft or fraud when your personal data is accessible online.
Manufacturing
The effect I.C.T has had on manufacturing is big because most companies now rely on I.C.T for a lot of things like for example car companies would now use computers and machines to manufacture and make cars. This means that there will be mostly no mistakes in cars because they are all made the same by the same exact machine. Another example would be computer games. The same computer will make the exact same copy of the game so there will be no mistakes in the game and it will not take long instead of copying every single game.
Here are some main disadvantages of manufacturing
· Computers and machines could break which could be disastrous
· Less employees
· Cost more money to buy machines than hire workers
Medicine
One obvious point of I.C.T in medicine is the ability to store lots of patient’s records in a large database. This means that you can get faster access to patient’s records instead of physically getting the persons file. This also means that the doctors writing can be easier to read. Another good point is that the transferring of patient data will be quicker between GPs and hospitals. There is also 24hr access to information.
Lots of medical equipment is dependent on I.C.T such as scanners, microprocessors and computer guided laser surgery.
Here are a few disadvantages of using I.C.T in medicine
· If the computer network goes down, information is unavailable. This could be life threatening.
· All staff will need to train with the software and this could take time.
· Part time staff may not be trained.
· It is very expensive to set up and could take a while.
